Biomarker / marker
any indicator (nucleic acid, enzyme, metabolite or other types of molecules: histamine, hormone, protein, etc.) present in the body or excreted by it, as a biological response to a physiological or pathological state. A biomarker is likely to identify the presence, effect and/or measurement of particular phenomena, such as - the rapid or early detection of a disease, before the first symptoms, the progression of a disease and the impact of a drug or a treatment.
