Sustainable purchasing
At bioMérieux, we collaborate with our suppliers and subcontractors to deliver sustainable value creation. We select them based on environmental, social, ethical and human rights compliance criteria; promote responsible practices in their operations; and engage them in an approach of continuous improvement.
Our commitments to our suppliers as well as our expectations of them are outlined in our Charter for Responsible Purchasing. We also expect all our partners to follow the principles set out in the Third Parties Business Principles and encourage them to use external internationally recognized platforms to assess their CSR maturity. We rely on the EcoVadis rating agency to assess the CSR performance of our suppliers. In 2021, 367 of them were rated, representing 50% of purchasing expenditure (compared to 202 suppliers representing more than 34% of purchasing expenditure in 2020). Of these, 307 suppliers met or exceeded the minimum expected score.
Furthermore, bioMérieux was among the first companies in France to sign the Charter for Responsible Supplier Relations initiated by the French government’s Business-to-Business Mediation Department and the French Purchasing Association. The signatories of this charter demonstrate their commitment to apply best purchasing practices and to uphold their responsibilities in a relationship of mutual trust with suppliers, based on full knowledge of and respect for their respective rights and duties.
