bioMérieux publishes a Bioethics Charter: A first in the diagnostics sector

bioMérieux confirms its ethical commitment to clinical research through a Bioethics Charter that guarantees transparency, accountability, and respect for human dignity. In particular, it aims to protect research participants when collecting and using biological samples and personal data.

“The bioMérieux Bioethics Charter reflects our strong commitment to ethical excellence in clinical research. By publishing this charter, we reaffirm our dedication to integrity, transparency and respect for human dignity. We invite all our stakeholders to join us in this meaningful initiative in the healthcare field,” explains Audrey Dauvet, Executive Vice President, Legal, Corporate Integrity and Public Affairs.

A culture of shared responsibility

Developed by bioMérieux’s Clinical Research Compliance (CRC) team in close collaboration with R&D and Medical Affairs, the Bioethics Charter is based on six core ethical principles –   integrity, beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy, confidentiality and justice – to guide decision-making in clinical research projects.

A clear framework for all working in research

The charter targets all employees involved in research, but also ethics committees and regulatory authorities, as well as external partners, including investigators and sample providers. This charter aims to:

  • Ensure compliance with international standards (Declaration of Helsinki, Good Clinical Practice);
  • Promote transparency and trust among stakeholders;
  • Protect the rights and safety of research participants.

Anticipating tomorrow’s ethical challenges

More than a compliance tool, the Bioethics Charter is a proactive step toward anticipating the ethical implications of emerging technologies and evolving data protection requirements. It reflects our commitment to continuous improvement, ongoing training and responsible innovation in public health.
