Violet Red Bile Glucose Agar Description
Overview
- Count typical colonies:
- With pour-plate inoculation, colonies of enterobacteria have a diameter of 0.5 mm or more, are pink to red in color and may or may not have a halo of red precipitate.
- With surface inoculation, colonies of enterobacteria are circular with a diameter of 1 to 2 mm and are dark red, with or without a halo of dark red precipitate.
- Its composition (according to Mossel et al. 1978) conforms to the composition described in the standards EN ISO 21528-1, EN ISO 21528-2, NF V08-054, and EN ISO 11133.
Intented Use
- The Violet Red Bile Glucose agar (VRBG) is a selective medium for the isolation and enumeration of enterobacteria in food products.
