Environmental Infection Control in Hospitals

Recent evidence is growing on the importance of environmental contamination as a reservoir for healthcare-associated infection (HAI): airborne transmission of aspergillosis is a high risk for immunosuppressed patients; water contamination may be a reservoir for acquisition of high-risk pathogens such as Pseudomonas aeruginosaLegionella pneumophila or carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales; the survival of resistant bacteria on dry surfaces has been responsible for transmission of multidrug-resistant organisms and Clostridiodes difficile.
