System Overview: POC Molecular Testing
The SPOTFIRE System is a small, scalable, multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) platform designed to bring reliable diagnostic results to the decentralized POC clinical setting.
Here’s what the SPOTFIRE System delivers:
- Small Footprint: Requires minimal benchtop space
- Customizable Throughput: Modular system with random access allows users to run up to four tests at the same time and scale up to four modules vertically
- Ease of Use: Easy to use with an intuitive system interface and streamlined workflow
- CLIA-Waived Tests: Can be used by any healthcare professional in any healthcare setting
- Seamless Integration: Interfaces with multiple laboratory information systems (LIS), POC data management systems and middleware

How does BIOFIRE® SPOTFIRE® Work?
The SPOTFIRE System is powered by proven syndromic testing technology that’s been adapted for near-patient settings. Its ability to support CLIA-waived tests means that anybody in the lab or clinic can run each multiplex panel and deliver results within minutes.
The SPOTFIRE workflow is also designed to fit within a busy clinic setting. It only takes about two minutes to prepare the sample and reagent, allowing for a timely impact on patient management.
The Benefits of POC Molecular Testing
Your Challenge | Our Solution |
|---|---|
Variability in Symptoms Common infections often exhibit overlapping symptoms, which could make diagnosis challenging. | Syndromic Testing Identify multiple targets associated with a specific syndrome or group of symptoms. |
Lack of Diagnostic Accuracy The accuracy of respiratory diagnostic tools may vary, which could lead to serial testing, and delayed diagnoses and treatment. | PCR Technology PCR tests are highly sensitive and specific and deliver consistent results that clinicians can trust.1,2 |
Prolonged Time to Result Delays in obtaining respiratory test results may impede timely diagnosis, treatment initiation, and overall patient care. | Fast Answers The SPOTFIRE System is designed for you to deliver results and a treatment plan while the patient is still in the room. |
High Cost of Misdiagnosis Misdiagnosis could result in prolonged treatments, potentially contributing to increased healthcare expenses and patient dissatisfaction. | Confident Diagnosis Receiving accurate, comprehensive results in office may reduce the need for callbacks, follow-up visits, and additional testing.3 |
CLIA-Waived Multiplex Panels
SPOTFIRE panels are developed with patients and clinicians in mind. They identify multiple viral and bacterial targets associated with common infections within ~20 minutes or less. With one swab, clinicians can deliver comprehensive results and a clear path forward before their patients leave.
