John Hurst

Senior Director, Field Medical Affairs at bioMérieux

Dr. John M. Hurst is a medical affairs leader specializing in infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship. He serves as Senior Director, Field Medical Affairs at bioMérieux, where he advances medical education, stakeholder engagement, and the evidence-led adoption of diagnostics—integrating real-world evidence and digital innovation to improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Hurst founded and directed the Antimicrobial Stewardship department at SSM Health/St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City after serving as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Diseases there and at the Medical University of South Carolina. His work earned recognition, including the Oklahoma Hospital Association’s Spirit of Improving Patient Safety Award for a bacteremia care pathway, and he is a Board-Certified Infectious Diseases Pharmacist.

Dr. Hurst holds a PharmD from the University of Oklahoma, completed PGY1 (UAB Hospital) and PGY2 ID (MUSC) residencies, and recently completed an MBA through the University of Wisconsin MBA Consortium.

Dr. Omai Garner

Clinical Professor and Director of Clinical Microbiology, UCLA

Dr. Omai Garner is a Clinical Professor and Director of Clinical Microbiology in the UCLA Health System. He received his PhD from UC San Diego in Biomedical Sciences. He was a Postdoctoral Clinical Microbiology CPEP Fellow in the Department of Pathology at UCLA, and a former McNair Scholar. Dr. Garner is Board Certified by the American Board of Medical Microbiology. Dr. Garner's research focuses on novel Point of Care Devices for infectious disease diagnosis in LMICs.

Dr. Garner works with UCLA’s Homeless Healthcare Collaborative on increasing access to testing.
