Pharmacists Step In When Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs Lack On-site Id Support

An analysis of surveys and CDC data have shown that up to half of U.S. hospitals lack an ID physician or ID pharmacist, according to Daniel J. Livorsi, MD, assistant professor at the University of Iowa Health Care. Antimicrobial stewardship duties will often fall to a PharmD if no one has a clearly defined role, but stewardship efforts proved more successful with cross-department support.
