BIOFIRE® FIREWORKS™: The Ultimate Hub for Surveillance and System Data
Imagine, for a moment, the BIOFIRE® FILMARRAY® TORCH System. The speed and efficiency of this diagnostic powerhouse enable labs to process hundreds of patient samples daily. Now picture a hospital or lab network that has multiple of these instruments, spread across the state or country.
What happens when you need results on a single test, but don't know in which binder, USB, or folder that result is being stored? How would you go about collecting utilization data or monitoring active tests across all instruments in your network?
Keeping track of test results, surveillance data, and instrument and staff performance analytics is not an easy task, especially for labs with busy staff and overflowing caseloads. Decentralized data management doesn't make matters easier as this approach lacks the visibility that's vital for streamlining lab operations and workflow. Time is lost on phone calls and searches through endless case files, which can have a negative impact on diagnostic capabilities and patient care.
The BIOFIRE® FIREWORKS platform can help meet these needs and more. In this article, we look at this state-of-the-art data solution and how it can help save time in the lab, lessen workloads, and create more efficient workflows.
What is FIREWORKS?
FIREWORKS is a cloud-based data solution that's designed to complement the BIOFIRE family of products. It acts as a centralized data management portal, giving total insights and analytics into BIOFIRE System performance, utilization, pathogen surveillance, and laboratory workflow management.
Here's what FIREWORKS can deliver to your laboratory:
- Full-scale visibility - Get all the data about your BIOFIRE System in one place, accessible from anywhere at the click of a button.
- Results you need, when you need them - Use a comprehensive filter to find the test result or instrument you're looking for within seconds.
- Effective instrument management - Know the status of each module and system in real time and troubleshoot immediately without leaving the portal.
- Epidemiological insights - Track and compare epidemiological trends across locations or instruments.
- Optimized all-round workflow - Turn actionable results into effective lab and clinical interventions.
Moreover, the portal was created, developed, and implemented following industry standards and regulations utilizing the Secure Development Lifecycle to ensure safety, security, and privacy.
What Makes FIREWORKS Tick
When you hear "web portal" or "software solution" you may think: Oh, this is going to be complicated. Fear not! Below we give an overview of the features within FIREWORKS so that you can understand the value the solution can bring to your lab.
Dashboard
The Dashboard delivers a high-level overview of all BIOFIRE data in your network, including information on locations, test (i.e., run) metrics, and instruments. The dashboard allows you to filter data by location and time frame so that you can better track and understand performance.
The at-a-glance visualizations make it easy to monitor tests over time; the status and overview of total runs; and utilization across all locations, panels, and instruments. The Dashboard also shows instrument module performance data, including modules in progress, available, and completed, as well as module errors.
Test Viewer
The test viewer gives you instant access to all BIFORE Panel test results. The Test Viewer's filter allows you to search by sample ID, panel, instrument, location, and much more, making it easier and faster than ever to find the results you're looking for. The interface itself is customizable to the user's needs, and labs can import historical run data to instantly streamline lab workflow.
Results are shown in either a graph or table view, depending on preference, and detail melt peaks and melting temperature (Tm) values for positive results and Controls. In just one click, you can download a report for any test or export all run data to a .CSV file.
System Management
The System Management portal gives labs the power to remotely monitor instrument and module status and performance in real time and across locations. Specifically, the portal shows whether modules are available, running, completed, disconnected, or malfunctioning; which panels are being run by which module; as well as the panel utilization data for the last seven days.
Bottom Line
Centralized data management can help take your lab to the next level. Having full visibility of your BIOFIRE fleet as well as the ability to access data anytime, anywhere may help optimize lab workflow and give you greater independence and control over lab operations. FIREWORKS, with its user-friendly interface, comprehensive filters and scope, and seamless integration, can be that very centralized data management tool.
