The first information a health care professional receives about a patient can heavily influence antimicrobial prescribing, for better or for worse. Professor Dan Morgan studied the habits of primary care physicians and found that the practitioners tended to overestimate the probability of disease before and after testing. Morgan urges providers to become familiar with diagnostic probability as a key factor to interpreting and applying test results.
