Management Committee

Management Committee

The Management Committee is responsible for putting the company’s strategy into effect. It meets once a month. Each meeting includes a number of reviews: operations, human resources, strategy monitoring and R&D portfolio management.
The purpose of the Management Committee is to oversee strategic projects, decide on priorities and implement the necessary resources within the company’s various divisions.

The Management Committee is comprised of:

Stéphane  Bancel
Chief Executive Officer

From 2000 to 2006, Stéphane Bancel worked in the United States, Great Britain and Belgium for Eli Lilly laboratories, where he successively held the positions of Managing Director, Executive Director for Global Manufacturing Strategy, Global Supply Chain and U.S. Distribution, and Supply Chain Manager. From 1995 to 1998, Stéphane worked at bioMérieux in Japan where he was in charge of the industrial microbiology business for the Asia-Pacific region.
Stéphane Bancel is a graduate of the Ecole Centrale Paris engineering school. He holds a Master of Science in biochemical engineering from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

Thierry  Bernard
Corporate Vice President, Global Commercial Operations

Thierry Bernard joined bioMérieux in 1999, starting as Strategy Director (1999), before heading Strategy and Clinical Marketing (1999-2002). In 2002, he assumed responsibility for the Europe / Middle East / Africa zone. He has lived in England, Belgium and Spain.
Thierry Bernard is a graduate of Sciences Po (Paris), and has a Master in Economy and Administration from the College of Europe and a Master of Science from the London School of Economics. He also has a degree in Foreign Trade (Barcelona) and is one of France’s Foreign Trade Advisors (Conseiller du Commerce Extérieur de la France).

Eric  Bouvier
Deputy General Manager Corporate Vice President, Immunoassays

From 2002 to 2006, Eric Bouvier held the position of Director of the Molecular Biology Business Unit and then President and Chief Executive Officer of bioMérieux's North American subsidiary.
He was Operations Vice President within the Adecco Group from 2001 to 2002. Prior to this, he worked for bioMérieux France (1993 - 2000), as Sales Engineer and Regional Sales Manager, before becoming Global Marketing Vice President.
Eric Bouvier is a Doctor of Pharmacy and holds an MBA degree.

Richard  Ding
Corporate Vice President, Strategy & Business Development and Theranostics Chief Executive Officer, bioTheranostics, Inc.

Richard Ding has over 15 years of research and management experience in the pharmaceutical and diagnostics industry. As a member of the team at Myriad Genetics that cloned BRCA1 gene, he made significant contribution to the development of one of the first molecular genetic tests. Prior to joining bioMérieux, he held various cross-functional positions at Eli Lilly and company. In addition to his current role at bioMérieux, Richard Ding serves as the CEO and President of bioTheranostics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of bioMérieux. Richard Ding holds an MBA from the University of Utah, United States, and received his undergraduate education and scientific training at Fudan University, China.

Jean-Marc  Durano
Corporate Vice President, Manufacturing & Supply Operations
From 2001 to 2006, Jean-Marc Durano was in charge of bioMérieux’s industrial site in Florence (Italy), combining R&D and instrument manufacturing functions.
From 1992 to 2001, he lived in Canada, heading the North American division of ERAI (Entreprise Rhône-Alpes International). He set up several branches of ERAI in the U.S., directly contributing to the development of many French companies in North America.

Jean-Marc Durano is a graduate of the INSA (Lyon, France) school of engineering.
Steve  Harbin
Corporate Vice President, Quality Management System, Regulatory Affairs & Product Quality, EHS, Global Internal Control and ERP

Before joining bioMérieux in July 2008, Steve Harbin was Director, Global Training and Development, Manufacturing and Quality at Eli Lilly (Indianapolis, Indiana - USA) since 2003. His career focus in the last 13 years has been in pharmaceutical manufacturing, dealing directly with supply chain issues, manufacturing operations, performance and process improvement in international environments. Steve has worked in the UK, in Spain and in the USA.
Steve Harbin is a graduate of the Durham College of Agriculture, in the U.K.

Peter  Kaspar
Corporate Vice President, Microbiology

Doctor Peter Kaspar joined bioMérieux in 2005 as head of the Molecular Biology Business Unit.
From 2004 to 2005, he was Business Development and Technology Manager at the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND), a Swiss non-profit organization dedicated to the development of diagnostic tests for infectious diseases affecting the developing world. From 1980 to 2004, he was in charge of scientific research at Boehringer Mannheim GmbH, then at Roche Diagnostics in Germany, Latin America and the United States. From 1986 to 1989, Peter worked as a professor and expert at Asuncion University (Paraguay), where he set up a development and production center for tropical disease diagnostic products.
Peter is a Doctor of Biochemistry. He studied at the Universities of Münster and Berlin in Germany and at the University of Lille in France.

Marc  Mackowiak
Chief Executive Officer, bioMérieux, Inc.

From 2006 to the present, Marc Mackowiak has also been serving as the Corporate Vice President of Product Development and Support for R&D.
Previously, from 2000 to 2006, he directed the development and support of Human Diagnosis worldwide for bioMérieux, and the management of a multifunctional R&D team of 600 people, as Executive Vice President, R&D Development & Support. Before joining bioMérieux, Marc spent most of his career working in France and abroad with IFFA-Mérieux / Rhône-Mérieux / Mérial in Vaccine development, manufacturing and testing, notably serving 9 years in the USA at Rhône-Mérieux, Inc./Mérial as the Vice President of Biodevelopment, Quality Control, Vaccinovigilance and Regulatory Affairs.
Marc Mackowiak obtained his doctorate degree from the National Veterinary School, Lyon, France in 1975, and a Diploma of Public Health which he received in 1976 from the Veterinary Inspection of Infectious Diseases and Hygiene of Food, Paris, France. He received a postgraduate degree in 1979 in Immunology from the Faculty of Medicine, Lyon, France.

Alexandre  Mérieux
Corporate Vice President, Industrial Microbiology

From 1999 to 2004, Alexandre Mérieux worked for the Silliker Group Corporation, working in marketing in the U.S. and Europe and as a Marketing and Business Unit director in France. He joined the Industrial Microbiology division of bioMérieux in 2005.
Alexandre Mérieux holds a degree in Biology from Lyon I University and is a graduate of HEC Montreal Business School.

Henri  Thomasson
Chief Financial and Legal Officer

Henri Thomasson joined bioMérieux in 1986, through the acquisition of API where he was “Secretaire General”. He previously worked for 5 years for Du Pont de Nemours. Henri Thomasson has 30 years of experience in finance where he has successively held professional or management positions in internal auditing, accounting, business analysis, treasury, tax, and consolidation. He has an MBA from the Lyon Management School and a Chartered Accountant degree.
